Raketa Big Zero, Glasnost, USSR 1980s

Vintage Russian propaganda watch – Raketa Big Zero – Glasnost. Raketa 2609 HA movement, 19 ruby jewels. Mechanical, hand wind watch. Power reserve 36 hours. Central second hand. Shock-proof balance.

Diameter 38 mm, thickness 9 mm. Stainless steel caseback with serial number #142.

White face with big numbers. Soviet Hammer and sickle, Glasnost, Perestroika.

Made in USSR (1980s) by Raketa. Peterhof is a PAKETA trademark.

The watch is in perfect condition, like new. There are some small scratches on the case (please see the photo).

Genuine leather strap (black; 18 mm).

Big Zero watch worn by Mikhail Gorbachev in the 80s. While in an official visit to Italy, he was asked by local journalists what perestroika meant for Russia. Gorbachev replied that Russians decided to start their lives from zero and showed them his own Raketa wrist watch which read 0 in lieu of the 12 mark.
