Vintage Russian mechanical watch – Raketa Big Zero Glasnost. Raketa 2609 HA movement. 16 ruby jewels. Hand wind. Power reserve 36 hours. Central second hand. Shock-proof balance. Diameter 38 mm, thickness 9 mm. Stainless steel caseback with number #838. White face with big numbers. Soviet Hammer and sickle, Glasnost, Perestroika. Made in USSR (1980s) by Raketa. New old stock. Original papers, box and genuine leather strap (black; 18 mm). The box may be different.

Big Zero watch worn by Mikhail Gorbachev in the 80s. While in an official visit to Italy, he was asked by local journalists what perestroika meant for Russia. Gorbachev replied that Russians decided to start their lives from zero and showed them his own Raketa wrist watch which read 0 in lieu of the 12 mark.
